Three out of Four with WINs, good start fellas.
(Where and When are the match reports being posted?)
This weeks tip is a bit deeper than last week, here we go:
If you have the desire to be a CRICKETER and play the game PROPERLY, you just can't expect to walk out onto the ground and take 5 wickets or score 50 runs.
You need to train with PURPOSE, twice a week, wherever possible (and most of you know you could do it). This is the key ingredient that will PREPARE you for the game skillwise.
Emotion & Physical Preparation, thats a whole different story for next weeks tip
Play hard, Play fair and WIN
Go Hawks

Great Weekend lads, All winning teams, fantastic. (The committee should put on free ”refreshments” for a short time back at the club on Saturday night when all teams win)
Now the real season starts, the serious stuff, 80-over cricket. Forget the past two weeks style of full-blown attack, slap and giggle stuff, it will not win you games of 80-over cricket.
Sides that bat 80 overs and build partnerships consistently win games. Sides that have a game plan in the field and their bowlers and fielders stick to the plan consistently win games. Let’s keep it simple, play 80-over cricket. Support your Captains, understand their game plan and be prepared to adjust your style to the situation of the game for the benefit of your team.
Captains, make sure that you speak to your players all the time, your game plan may need to be adjusted during the course of the game, make sure you keep consulting with your vice-captains and keep talking to your batsmen or bowlers as to the current plan.
In the field, enjoy yourself, enjoy the company of your teammates, have fun. 90% of cricket is spent in the field, its hard work if you make it hard work. Its enjoyable if you make it enjoyable. Get yourself involved in the game somehow.
Play hard, Play fair and WIN
Go Hawks

Jeez,
Tunna must be going a bit soft across the pond there and forgeting how he used to prepare.
The sight of the young tearaway (with mullet) with stubby in hand getting out of the Monaro. He slams the stubby and walks onto the ground in full work gear - overalls, work boots etc. Takes an agate and pelts a few down (still wearing steel caps) then lights a durrie before his bat.
Lets not even start about the actual game day preparation!!!!
TET
P.S. Sorry I haven't posted this year yet - been a tad busy - will try and get here as often as I can - Great start to the year and only 3 80's records to go. |

| If CSI ever sprayed luminol in that Monaro, it would have lit up brighter than VFL park at night! |

great to hear from you, even if it is to slightly smear my wonderful perspective. I agree that back in the day we were more exciting, however we were lucky enough to survive our youth and we should let the younger folk listen to the old bastards rambling on. On the subject of your failing memory, can you name all members of the first under 16 hawks team? My dad found this photo and a few others that I will post in due course. I think it is a fairly easy one except there is only nine players, who is missing?

Hi Smails,
nice start but you forgot Stan McFadden, team manager. I know that one of his boys was Mark, but im not sure which one. I dont beleive it to be Nobby North either, maybe Top End Ted can assist, he has a fabulous memory you know.

it was a wild guess at nobby.
Is one a guy by the name of Craig LeClerk or something like that?
Shouldn't Jenny LaPaige be in that side............or is it the other way around and most of that side were in her? |

Criag Le Suer is the curly headed blond. Back right was a muscely kid called Ron or Norm I think. Missing in action - maybe Mick Backens and Mick Lotherington.
There were some days when we couldn't all fit in the Safari.
How "ginger" was Bisho as a kid!!!!
I reckon theres enough hair in this photo to plait a brade from Darwin to Legend park!!!! |
